Kandy Sowards is a Licensed Master Social Worker with extensive experience across acute, forensic, medical, and community-based settings. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Midwestern State University in 2010. Kandy served on the Red River Steering Committee in Wichita Falls, Texas and was awarded ” 2010 Student Social Worker of the Year” by the National Association of Social Workers. Her leadership continued as she also served as President of S.W.A.T (Social Workers Acting Together) while attending MSU. Kandy earned her Master’s degree in Social Work at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio in 2015.
Raised overseas in a military family, Kandy developed a strong foundation in service, cultural awareness, and resilience. Her clinical background includes work with women and children in crisis, a maximum-security psychiatric Adolescent Forensic Program and hospital-based Competency to Stand Trial programs serving both adolescents and adults. She has also provided care in hospice and detox settings and has supported neurodivergent children within school systems and the juvenile justice system. Her work consistently centers on serving diverse and underserved individuals and families.
Kandy utilizes psychoeducation and evidence-based therapeutic modalities including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She has a special interest in working with first responders and individuals exposed to chronic stress and trauma. Her clinical approach is authentic, compassionate, and collaborative, grounded in the belief that healing is a holistic process and that light can be found even in moments of profound difficulty. She is committed to fostering safety, trust, and meaningful change within the therapeutic relationship.
Outside of her professional work, Kandy is passionate about her faith, family and dog “Baxter”.
